Challenge

In 2012, the provincial government announced a series of amalgamations of New Brunswick school districts. A new district named Anglophone West School District was created. They discovered that they had 3 different ways of doing emergency response, crisis response, school safety plans. They needed to enforce consistency, since the #1 role of the District is to share information with parents, community partners, RCMP, local police service etc...and they wanted reliable and effective information. Word and fillable PDFs were nightmares to work in for staff, and since the safety plans had to be refreshed and submitted every October, this was a tedious and manual process.

Solution

School Safety is about the preparation and planning that goes into it long before an event happens. Fire drills in particular are important exercises that are required 5x per year under legislation and policy. The District is able to quickly see when fire drills took place, what the evacuation procedure is, who is on the school safety team, roles / responsibilities, and emergency contact information, as well as share it with their community RCMP officers who need that information to respond to an emergency. The system works for everyone and helping to keep students and staff safe while at school.
